Further to the widely reported US terror warning over this past weekend, we would like to reiterate that according to all the information available to us, the threat remains credible.

It is highly likely that nothing happened because of both the wide-ranging publicity and the strong security presence around greater Sandton and our community over this period.

We know that radicalised individuals and groups exist in South Africa and could choose to carry out an act of violence at any time. Therefore, proactive and effective security should be part of our daily lives, with every community member being actively involved. The stronger our security, the less likely we are to be targeted.

Kol Hakavod to the hundreds of CSO volunteers and staff who went above and beyond over the past 72 hours in keeping our community safe. These security measures will continue into the foreseeable future.

We would also like to thank our community for remaining calm, acting on the threat with the seriousness it deserves and working together with us over this high-risk period.

It is important to remember that those who planned to carry out these attacks may choose another time and location to carry out their plans. We therefore urge the community to continue exercising vigilance and maintain a strong focus on security over the coming days and weeks.
